Brocade Communications Systems Inc. has partnered with CERN openlab to create an open SDN approach for the "new IP." The OpenFlow-based strategy will use Brocade routers and switches. Midokura and Fujitsu Ltd. deepened their partnership, with Fujitsu offering Midokura's network virtualization software in its OpenStack cloud architecture.
Pertino Inc. added features to its Cloud Networking Engine platform to simplify WAN deployments for a variety of enterprise use cases.
Brocade partners with CERN on open SDN
Brocade announced its partnership with CERN openlab to develop a long-term software-defined networking (SDN) approach for the "new IP," based on OpenFlow. CERN openlab is a collaborative effort between CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) and top information and communications technology (ICT) companies. It aims to develop innovative technologies to support the Large Hadron Collider research community.
Brocade says it will assist CERN openlab in creating its new open SDN strategy, with infrastructure capable of handling traffic surges in an efficient, dynamic and agile manner, and an SDN application framework to enhance data monitoring and analysis.
CERN openlab's approach will use OpenFlow-enabled Brocade routers , switches, controllers and applications.
"As one of the most complex machines ever built, the Large Hadron Collider requires cutting-edge ICT solutions both to control its operations and to [analyze] the vast amounts of data produced by the experiments," Alberto Di Meglio, head of CERN openlab, said in a release.
Midokura and Fujitsu expand partnership
Midokura announced an expansion of its partnership with Fujitsu, which will offer Midokura Enterprise MidoNet (MEM) as the primary network virtualization overlay in its open source cloud architecture. Fujitsu provides cloud infrastructure as a service based on OpenStack.
According to Midokura, a recent OpenStack Foundation user survey found that nearly two-thirds of respondents have doubts about Neutron -- OpenStack's networking controller project. Midokura said that MEM's scalable network virtualization software replaces the default Neutron Open vSwitch plug-in, allowing for easier and more efficient OpenStack deployments.
Pertino enhances SD-WAN services
Pertino added a virtual gateway to its cloud networking platform to simplify deployment of cloud-based wide area networks (WANs) and software-defined WANs (SD-WANs). The company said that Pertino Gateway -- which functions as a virtual tunnel endpoint-- can connect any device with an IP address to an overlay network. Pertino said this model allows geographically distributed, remote workers and their devices to operate on the same SD-WAN, with use cases extending from the data center to the branch office to the Internet of Things.
The company also created another new Cloud Network Engine feature called Pertino SmartZones, a technology to dynamically steer traffic between local area networks (LAN) and overlay networks. Pertino SmartZones lets administrators set policies that dictate whether traffic will travel through the SD-WAN or the LAN, maximizing network efficiency.
