I have been asked to design a wireless network for traffic light control based on Siemens-type ST800 controllers. I would like to know what kind of topologies would suit this network.
I am not familiar with the networking capabilities of the ST800, but note that Siemens also sells a Smartlink short range radio system for use with urban traffic control systems like the ST800. Smartlink connects each base station to several remote units using a point-to-multipoint topology. Base stations are then connected to each other with peer-to-peer radio links, relaying Telecommand 12 (TC12) data upstream in 300 meter hops towards the network head-end. Network topology diagrams and further information can be found in the Smartlink spec sheet.
