How long does the IPv4 to IPv6 transition take?

Various factors, including financial burden, will influence how long the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will take, says IPv6 expert Chip Popoviciu.

How long does the transition from IPv4 to IPv6 take?

An IPv4 to IPv6 transition is going to take a good amount of time, but exactly how long varies from case to case. You will learn more as you go along. Something you should note is that products will be continuously changing throughout the transition -- and this will influence how long the process takes. You will, however, quickly come to the realization that running two protocols at the same time is not a cheap proposition, so the time spent running dual-stack operations will probably be brief due to the financial burden.
