CSMA/CD was developed for Ethernet. This means you cannot use it in a Token Ring topology. The way an Ethernet network operates is very different from that of a Token Ring. The hardware and software for each type of network are different and incompatible. In the event you need to have hosts communicating between such networks, you would use either a Bridge or Gateway, which will translate frames from one network topology to another.
