About the White Paper:
There is a perennial debate in the IT community about the merits of integrated solutions versus a best-of-breed approach. Is it better to acquire several related technologies from one vendor, already integrated, or select a series of well-known products from different vendors? Occasionally, the marketplace will decide this, but rarely has an organization attempted to measure actual value of integration pertaining to a series of complementary technologies.
This white paper from IT benchmarking labs The Tolly Group, compared an integrated perimeter security solution with two best-of-breed sets, quantifying the effort of deploying and managing each. Results were dramatic with best-of-breed combinations requiring approximately 2-4 times more effort to deploy and manage than the 'all-in-one' package. Findings show that advantages such as a single user interface and management tools set, integrated update mechanism and more allow enterprises to save valuable time and money when choosing integrated security solutions.
