About the White Paper:
Barry University, a top-ranked institution in South Florida, relies on state-of-the-art communications to serve 10 schools and over 8,500 students. The main campus in Miami Shores shares information with 25 other campuses and locations throughout the region. Recent expansion at Miami Shores created the need to extend the campus LAN to two additional buildings. Since connecting to the campus LAN via fiber was cost prohibitive, they installed a WiFi bridge to link these additional facilities. However, this did not deliver enough bandwidth to meet connectivity requirements. This study outlines how LightePointe's fully scalable optical wireless solution, FlightLite, improved performance at half the cost of competing radio-based WLAN solutions by delivering:
- 20 times the throughput of WiFi bridge.
- Seamless connectivity to network hubs, switches and routers
- Simple operation and flexibility to install additional systems over time
