Using MD5 in Cisco configurations

This tip explains how to use MD5 to make your Cisco passwords more secure.

When configuring a Cisco router, instead of using enable secret 7, use enable secret 5, which is a one-way MD5...

hash of your password. The secret 7 password is trivial to decrypt.

Unfortunately, Cisco does not provide the secret 5 service to all the passwords, it is available only for the enable password.
