Microsoft has made available for download a long list of Server resource tools on their Web site. These tools offer

administrators numerous utilities (listed on that page), many of which are useful in network management of applications, services, network connections, Active Directory, and other issues. It's valuable to have these tools saved in a common location so that they can be used by IT staff, or with direction knowledgeable users. Of the 126 commands or utilities that are listed, the following are particularly useful in network management:

  • Diskuse.exe: User Disk Usage Tool
  • Dnsdiag.exe: SMTP DNS Diagnostic Tool (documented in Readme.htm)
  • Fcopy.exe: File Copy Utility for Message Queuing
  • Inetesc.adm: Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration
  • Memmonitor.exe: Memory Monitor
  • Mibcc.exe: SNMP MIB Compiler
  • Moveuser.exe: Move Users
  • Pathman.exe: Path Manager
  • Pmon.exe: Process Resource Monitor
  • Queryad.vbs: Query Active Directory
  • Robocopy.exe: Robust File Copy Utility
  • Showacls.exe
  • Showperf.exe: Performance Data Block Dump Utility
