Scripting ftp, cont'd

a .netrc file. But I don't like the security risk on the .netrc file laying around all the time. So, as root, use crypt to encrypt the .netrc and put it someplace that only root can get to. Then, one minute before the user's ftp script kicks off, root's cron uses crypt to un-encrypt the .netrc file, puts it in the user's home directory, and uses chown and chmod so the user has access. The last line in the user's ftp script removes the .netrc file. Not an ideal solution, but this way there aren't any .netrc files laying around.
