Tip

AppleTalk and Ethernet Switches

When using a configurable Ethernet switch connected to Macintosh computers on the network, make sure that the Spanning Tree on the ports that are directly connected to Macintosh computers on a network are set to disable.

If the Spanning Tree is not disabled, the Macs will try to duplicate the AppleTalk addresses of other Macs on the same network. This will cause drop-offs and the network connections will become unreliable.
