 - NSIS (Next Steps in Signaling) is an evolving communication protocol intended to facilitate signaling at the Transport layer, using a two-level model to support diverse services and resources. Like the similar RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol), NSIS defines a way to reserve paths on the Internet for high-bandwidth transmissions and multicast. NSIS employs the same basic methodology as RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol), but in a simpler and more general fashion.
NSIS is expected to support services and resources such as NAT (Network Address Translation), QoS (Quality of Service) and TURN (Traversal Using Relay NAT), with enhanced authentication and authorization mechanisms to ensure optimum protection of information assets in all working environments. NSIS is currently under development by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).
