terminal proxy server

Word of the Day

DEFINITION -

A terminal proxy server (TPS) is a program that acts as an interface for VoIP phones. The TPS provides multiple VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) telephone sets with a common configuration, facilitating secure and reliable operation of each supported set as well as registration, bandwidth control and feature delivery. The TPS resides on a signaling server, a computer that provides call control services.

In VoIP communications, a TPS combines the functions of a traditional terminal server and proxy server. A terminal server provides computers and communication devices with a common connection point to a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN). A proxy server acts as an intermediary between a proprietary LAN or WAN and the Internet to provide security and administrative control.
