Receiving the bronze award in our mobile security category is Trend Micro Mobile Security. In our 2008 Product Leadership survey, the product from Trend Micro scored best in ease of creating policies for user usage and access, with more than 64% of respondents rating it good or excellent. On the other hand, Trend Micro Mobile Security scored rather low in vendor service and support, with only 48% rating it good or excellent.

According to Trend Micro, its mobile security product protects smartphones and PDAs from data loss, infections, and attacks from a central enterprise console that can also manage desktop protection. Encryption and authentication defends data integrity on lost or stolen devices. Its anti-malware features block viruses, worms, Trojans, and SMS text message spam. The product also includes a built-in firewall and intrusion-detection system to protect against hackers, intrusions and denial-of-service attacks on the increasing number of Wi-Fi-enabled mobile devices.

Trend Micro Mobile Security provides centralized management using the included OfficeScan Client/Server Edition 8.0 console. The company says that the console enables administrators to provision and manage Trend Micro Mobile Security policies and settings on handsets, desktops, servers, laptops -- or any combination of these devices -- from a single console.
