Network and IT management platforms

SILVER AWARD: HP OpenView
"It is a good product, but it takes a little work and is expensive," wrote one survey respondent, summing up the comments on the silver medalist in our network and IT management platforms category, OpenView from HP. Users found it to be a high-quality, high-end product that serves the needs of enterprises that can afford it and have staff sufficiently skilled to use it correctly.
Users praised OpenView as "best in class" and a "management standard," earning it the silver ranking. Others mentioned that the product "appears to answer every question we had" in a suitable level of detail. "This platform is very stable, and easy upgrading is available," one user said. The product ranked very high in speed of problem isolation.
A few readers found OpenView difficult to configure and support, pointing out that it "needs specialist skills to set up" (scripting) and takes time to implement. "You need a trained technician to make modifications to this product," one user said. "Some of the interfaces are not user friendly."
