SILVER AWARD: Singlestep Unity 2.0
Network management is a broad and multi-layered area, and it often takes a Herculean effort to make sense of monitoring and performance results to get a comprehensive view of what's really going on in a network. Our Silver Award goes to a product that takes on the challenge and shifts the weight off the network manager's shoulders. Unity 2.0, from Singlestep Technologies, integrates data from other vendors' network management systems, acting as a central repository and control center.
Through data-integration connectors, Unity can attach to more than 23 different network management systems. Incoming data is consolidated into a common format and viewed through customizable dashboards and reports. The product also boasts an automation feature called Policyscape that allows users to build policies that can automatically correlate data and respond to specific network events without any human interaction.
Intended for enterprises, systems integrators, consultants and resellers, Unity was designed with high-performance in mind, and our judges noted its performance benefits. The product can handle 1.5 million events per day (10 times the average event load estimated by Singlestep), with bursts of 300 messages per second for up to five minutes.
Our judges also remarked that although the product has modest infrastructure demands, it is pricey, and that may represent a barrier to entry for all but the largest enterprises. The product suite is offered at three levels: integration and visualization, analysis and automation. Cost for all three, including support, is $160,000.
