Foundry Networks' FastIron Edge X-Series Family
This year's Bronze Award winner is the FastIron Edge X-Series Family from Foundry Networks Inc. It offers 24 standard Gigabit Ethernet ports, 4 combo ports that support Gigabit Ethernet over copper and fiber connections, a pair of 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, plus a removable, load-balancing, and auto-sensing AC power supply.
Our panel of judges was most impressed by the performance of the FastIron Edge X-Series Family. It supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet links up to 300 km over multimode fiber and 10 km or 40 km over singlemode fiber. Because it offers two 10 GigE ports, network managers can obtain network connectivity of up to 20 Gbps with a single unit.
The device is designed to offer advanced security, such as MAC authentication and 802.1X authentication, enabling secured network devices to be dynamically deployed and subsequently controlled using a VLAN, standard and extended access control lists and a MAC filter group. It also supports industry-standard network traffic monitoring via sFlow integration, with support for 10 Gbps speeds. Pricing for the FastIron Edge X-Series Family ranges from $11,995 to $14,495, excluding support and software fees.
