New video management system
Forgent Networks this week announced enhancements to its Video Network Platform that give administrators greater control over video conferencing. With new enhancements from the Austin, Texas, provider of collaboration software, administrators can now add participants to a conference, extend calls and detect, manage and report on impromptu calls.

Enhanced security for remote sites
NetScreen Technologies Inc. announced new features this week for its NetScreen 5XT product that increases security and resiliency for remote sites. The product from the Sunnyvale, Calif., security provider offers fail-over functionality as well expanded router interoperability. The product also allows companies to create security segments on the network to allow different levels of access.

High performance broadband over phone lines
Cisco Systems Inc. this week announced the availability of its Catalyst 2950 Long Reach Ethernet product that provides broadband access over existing phone lines for small and medium enterprises. The product offers network-wide services quality of service and security providing speeds from 2 to 15M bites/sec.

Wireless security product meets government standards
Barcoding.com released a new wireless encryption product this week that complies with the government's requirements for wireless security. The new product from the Baltimore, Md., wireless products company, is both FIPS-140 and Triple DES complaint.

Study shows Shoreline PBX is cost effective
A study released by The Tolly Group, the Manasquan, N.J., testing and consulting company, found that Internet protocol private branch exchanges (PBXs) from Shoreline Communications were less complex and costly than those from its major competitor, Cisco Systems. Shoreline, the voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) vendor based in Sunnyvale, Calif., paid for the study which simulated a 1,000 employee enterprise with remote offices.
