Increasing anticipation, Sprint has delayed the launch of its WiMAX service. A new launch date was not announced.

Sprint has announced that its hotly anticipated launch of the WiMAX service that the company has planned under the "Xohm" name will be delayed until an undisclosed point in 2008.

The launch had originally been anticipated for late April, however the company now says that the launch will be some time "later this year."

While Sprint offered no explanation for why the launch would be delayed, unconfirmed reports suggest that the company is still rolling out hardware and base stations in at least one of the three major metropolitan areas that the initial launch was planned to include.

No exact information on the new launch schedule is available, however Dow Jones Newswire cites "chatter" at the CTIA Wireless trade show as suggesting a summer timeframe.
