This week Alcatel announced a new certification, the Alcatel Certified Switch professional. The CD-based training course from the Paris-based communication network company is designed to train network professionals on the OmniSwitch family of products.

New network monitoring features
AppDancer Networks Inc. this week announced three new enhancements to its monitoring and analysis tool. The Roswell, Ga., network analysis company's new features include the ability to monitor Oracle Server transactions in real time, real time monitor Cisco System's voice over Internet Protocol traffic and the ability to monitor virtual LAN flows.
Easier WLAN deployments
Madge Networks N.V. this week announced the availability of its Smart Wireless Enterprise Access Server. The product from the Amsterdam-based networking products company provides added security, helps manage access points form multiple vendors and supports multiple standards such as 802.11a and 802.11b.
Voice over Bluetooth
A new software product from TDK Systems allows the transmission of voice traffic, wireless networking as well as picture transmission over Bluetooth, the short-range wireless standard. The product from Boston-based TDK Systems, a unit of TDK Corp., is targeted for the home office and small office market and will enable users to network as many as eight devices together. It can be used for voice over Internet protocol as well as printing and other data functions.
Wi-Fi linked to cell networks
A new product form Nortel Networks will enable wireless carriers to seamlessly link users from wireless wide area networks to Wi-Fi wireless hot spots and back. According to the Dallas-based communications company, with this service user passwords will remain the same, billing will be centralized and users will be able to roam between networks without an interruption of service.
