For control freaks: Cloud WAN optimization

WAN managers need control of their applications when they leverage hybrid cloud scenarios, so Akamai and Riverbed have partnered to offer up cloud WAN optimization.

WAN managers are control freaks. Application control, that is. So when enterprises begin to leverage public and hybrid clouds—running a portion of their applications in a hosted scenario—it can feel like throwing caution to the wind. After all, what good is WAN optimization when a portion of your applications are running on someone else's infrastructure?

To address those concerns, WAN optimization technology provider Riverbed Technologies will partner with Akamai Technologies, a content delivery network (CDN) and Web acceleration provider, to address SaaS performance in the cloud. The two companies promise a cloud WAN optimization product by the first quarter of 2012 that will address application performance and optimization across public and private environments.
