WAN managers are control freaks. Application control, that is. So when enterprises begin to leverage public and hybrid clouds—running a portion of their applications in a hosted scenario—it can feel like throwing caution to the wind. After all, what good is WAN optimization when a portion of your applications are running on someone else's infrastructure?
To address those concerns, WAN optimization technology provider Riverbed Technologies will partner with Akamai Technologies, a content delivery network (CDN) and Web acceleration provider, to address SaaS performance in the cloud. The two companies promise a cloud WAN optimization product by the first quarter of 2012 that will address application performance and optimization across public and private environments.
