Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology for wired LANs that allows the electrical current, necessary for the operation of each networked device, to be carried by the data cables rather than by power cords. By minimizing the number of wires that must be run in order to install and maintain a network, network architects and engineers will find that PoE can lower overall networking costs, reduce downtime, provide easier maintenance, and greater installation flexibility than with traditional wiring. This crash course will arm you with the knowledge to make PoE work for you.
