Advanced IP addressing management

Proper IP addressing is required to ensure the efficient network operations and chapter 2 of CCNP 1: Advanced Routing Companion Guide describes how subnet masks, VLSMs, private addressing and NAT can enable more efficient use of IP addresses. It also shows how hierarchical addressing allows for efficient allocation of addresses and a reduced number of routing table entries. VLSMs, specifically, provide capability to include more than one subnet mask within a network and the capability to subnet an already subnetted network address. The IPv6 addressing format is also presented.
