Enterprise networks need IT-business strategic alignment

The enterprise network continues to evolve in the face of new technologies and threats. Yet companies aren't managing these changes with full IT-business strategic alignment.

IT pros are considering the business need more and more as technologies change. Companies are becoming more comfortable putting network functions in the cloud, and as that continues, they are working on fuller IT-business strategic alignment around what stays on-premises and what can be moved to the cloud. In addition, the use of unified communications and growing interest in collaboration tools forces IT and business units to work more closely together to determine which applications best fit company needs.

Perhaps most critically, network and security teams have to be more collaborative as well. Cohesive IT-business strategic alignment for network security helps protect against increasing cyberthreats to the enterprise, but a potential security professional shortage will have network managers struggling to learn roles they had not previously performed.

Education underpins all the work companies can do to improve their IT-business strategic alignment. Network specialists who strive for advancement will remain focused on education throughout their whole careers, one pro says.
