Fortunately, the Linksys Knowledge Base provides very detailed instructions on how to configure an IPsec VPN tunnel between Windows XP/2000 hosts and Linksys wireless or wired routers, including your BEFSX41. Just follow the VPN configuration instructions located here very carefully. (Instructions can also be found in Appendix C of your router's configuration guide.)
Substitute the IP address assigned to your own DSL router for the WAN address " 140.111.1.1" and the IP address assigned to your laptop for the host address "140.111.1.2" used in the Linksys example. Also substitute your own value for the Preshared Key used in this example, taking care to enter the same value at both ends of the tunnel. Yes, known IP addresses are required for both tunnel endpoints to use this particular configuration. You may be having trouble if you are using DHCP for dynamic address assignment at either end of the tunnel and not getting the same IP address every time you connect.
