Is it possible to determine the NIC speed of a remote workstation on my LAN?

EXPERT RESPONSE

Detecting the speed of a remote workstation is possible! If your NT machine has an SNMP server running on it, then it's easy as running an SNMP browser and point it towards the target!

There are quite a few applications out there that will do the job; one which I've been using for years is the Solarwinds IP Network Browser which is now part of their network tool package. In addition to the above, the application will scan your network and present you all the IP addresses in use, along with detailed information about each one (in the case the host is running the SNMP service).

If you want a shareware copy of it, you can visit my Web site at firewall.cx and locate it in the download section!
