Could you explain how calling cards are implemented? What is the architecture -- should they use Cisco VoIP or any other technology. Can you send me any information?

Calling cards are more of a back end application. When you use a calling card, it is a PIN number, so to speak, allowing connection through someone's system. The person calling dials an 800 number, which in turn, gets answered by a back end system. One the phone number and calling card number are keyed in, access is granted. The billing system then knows who placed the call and the charges are applied to that account. As for architecture – there are mega-possibilities.
