QUESTION POSED ON: 27 May 2003
What is the IP address 0.0.0.0 used for?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
0.0.0.0 is used as for default network. If you use it as a static route than it generates a default network. When used with mask of 0.0.0.0 it matches any address and when used with 255.255.255.255 it matches none. So based on the mask (anything between 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255) with 0.0.0.0 you can define which networks should match and which should not.
