At present, the options for optical networking certifications are pretty
limited. I'd suggest you look into the Lucent and Nortel certification
programs, which are the only ones I know of right now that touch on such
areas. Contrariwise, if your master's work embraces these areas, and you can
demonstrate sound theoretical and experimental knowledge of such topics and
technologies when you interview for your next job, a certification may not
be necessary. I'd urge you to discuss this with a reputable technology
placement or recruiting firm, and get their input on this subject. Optical
computing and communciations are very hot technology areas right now, so as
long as you can demonstrate deep technical knowledge and some relevant
experience, you may not need to pursue certification as well.
