QUESTION POSED ON: 30 April 2008
I was looking at your Ask the Expert response on open source authenticator implementation for LANs and you wrote: "Open1x is said to include 802.1X authenticator source code, although that project's focus is more on the supplicant."

I have read open1x documentation extensively and only found stuff related to xsupplicant, could you please let me know a little more about what you meant by the above statement as I'm interested in writing modules for 802.1x authentication at the authenticator/access points/AP?

EXPERT RESPONSE
According to the Open1X project page "Open1X is an open source implementation of the IEEE 802.1X protocol. This project includes support for the authenticator and supplicant, while other projects (e.g., FreeRADIUS) provide support for the authentication server." However, the source code developed by this project thus far is just an 802.1X supplicant.

Alternatively, you may be able to find 802.1X authenticator code in the HostAP open source package.
