QUESTION POSED ON: 04 October 2007
Due to their shield, what is the length for a ScUTP cable run, and what is the length of a TERA cable run? Is it still 295 feet, or is it higher?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
The maximum distance for any copper (as per the standards) is 100 meters. Although, due to the heartiness of a TERA cable, some users are seeing much longer lengths perform without errors. It is important to note, however, that if your runs are longer than the standards-based 100 meters (total length) and you do have errors, your active electronics manufacturer will likely suggest an intermediate switch or a repeater to get you back into the standards-based lengths.
