Basic IP routing rules remain the same. IPv6 uses extension headers which can be used for routing information and are only inserted into an IPv6 packet if needed. For routing with IPv6, the following routing protocols are used: RIPng, OSPFv3, IS-IS, EIGRPv6 and BGP.
