Why is full duplex important to VoiP applications, more so than half duplex?

Basically, fully duplex means the ability to both send and receive simultaneously. Half duplex means that while transmission is occurring, reception is not possible. Consider the case of VoIP on the local Ethernet LAN. IP is carried by Ethernet. If you want to have both parties in a VoIP conversation talking simultaneously, you need to have full duplex Ethernet transmission.
