QUESTION POSED ON: 29 October 2004
I have over seven years of experience and the only certification I have is Win NT Workstation/Server? What certification should I shoot for next?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
To some extent, the answer to that depends on whether you want to stay in the Microsoft camp or venture outside its domain, and whether or not your workplace runs mostly Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003/Windows XP. For the sake of this answer, I'll stay inside the Microsoft camp and recommend that you pursue MCSA/MCSE on either Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 topics, depending on what's in use in your workplace right now and whether an upgrade or migration from 2000 to 2003 is in your immediate future (which we'll define as "some time in the next 12 months.") If 2000 is the platform and will remain so for at least a year, start out on the 2000 tracks to MCSE and MCSA. Otherwise, jump right into Windows Server 2003 topics.
