QUESTION POSED ON: 02 October 2002
Hello Mr. Tittel,
I am currently completing training towards MCSE certification. I have obtained A+, net+, and CCNA certifications. I am very interested in specifically entering the VoIP sector of the IT industry, but there doesn't seem to be any formal education for this specialty. Can you suggest any organizations or programs that may guide me towards VoIP training and/or education? Also, what educational sequence would you suggest towards a VoIP specialist, if such a niche exist? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Charlie

Dear Charlie:
If you hop to http://www.gocertify.com and search on VoIP or VOIP, you'll see that numerous organizations offer certs in this area, including the likes of Alcatel, Cisco (one of the Cisco qualified specialist credentials focuses on IP telephony), and Nortel, among others. Let the vendors or equipment in use in your current (or planned future) place of employment help guide you into some specific program, and you'll be ready to declare yourself a VoIP specialist when you've made it through the requisite training.
Good luck!
