Joint Academic Network (JANET)
In the United Kingdom, JANET (Joint Academic Network) is the main backbone
network for the UK university system of academic and research computers. The network is also known
as SuperJanet. It is operated by UKERNA (United Kingdom Education & Research Networking
Association), a non-profit group, under contract from the Joint Information Systems Committee
(JISC) of the UK Higher Education Funding Councils.
