Bellcore (Bell Communications Research)
Bellcore (Bell Communications Research) provides certain centralized research and standards
coordination for the regional Bell operating companies (RBOC)s. It also coordinates security and
emergency preparedness for the U.S. government. Bellcore was formed in 1984 when AT&T was
broken up into the seven RBOCs. Bellcore's budget comes from the RBOCs. Bellcore coordinated the
design for the Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN).
