Where can I learn more about lasers for private "point-to-point" WAN connectivity

I just read a brief article "Lasers hit the spot when wires can't cut it" by Jim Rendon (25 Aug 2003).

I was hoping to learn more about using Lasers for private "point-to-point" WAN connectivity - could you list some of the more active and prominent manufacturers of this technology so that I can contact them directly regarding their product offerings?

http://www.lsainc.com/ is certainly one. http://www.lasertech.com/ is another. Actually, lasers have been around for quite some time. In certain instances, it provides a good connectivity solution where cabling cannot be accomplished due to some constraint.

I would suggest asking any of the vendors that you speak with for comparative literature between them and their competitors. This will give you an idea of not only who they view their competition to be, but also how they view themselves in relation to the competition. You should note that this is a line of sight transmission, so there can be no obstacles (including temporary ones like cranes).
