These new certifications are actually a requirement for Gold Channel Partners. Cisco believes that not only should technicians prove their knowledge of the Cisco technologies and products, but the partners who deliver and sell their technologies should as well. This makes sense since Cisco has radically expanded their technology offerings into all new realms way beyond routing and switching. Partners now can prove their understanding of the products they are selling by choosing several technology areas (i.e. routing and switching, wireless, Unity) and ensure that they are skilled in the technology and processes involved in selling Cisco products and services.
