Q

Network security with foreign network cards

Security expert Michael Gregg fields a question about unknown network cards gaining access to a user's network.

Can a network interface card (NIC) from another network enter my network without my knowledge?
This all depends on the configuration of your network gear. Many devices allow MAC address filtering. With MAC addressing filtering in place you can restrict devices on your network to only those with allowed or approved MAC addresses. With this kind of port security in place you can strengthen the security of your network.
