The best thing that you can do is work with the manufacturer of the equipment that you want to install, or work with another company that is already doing VoIP implementations. There are different certifications for different systems. By working with a vendor or another company that is already doing implementations, you will get hands on experience which is invaluable along with the practical knowledge. You will have a hard time just jumping out there and going it alone. You may want to join some of the industry trade associations such as SIP, www.sip.org, etc. Good luck!
