How do you go about creating DMZs?

There are routers and switches that DMZ can be activated on, but which is the better of the two to create the DMZ and how do you go about creating the DMZ?

I think you need both router and switches to create DMZ. You need a router for Layer3 isolation of DMZ from the rest of the network, and you need switches for connecting the devices, which are in DMZ. Ideally you should use, switches and firewall (instead of router) to create a DMZ. A hardware firewall is must more efficient and secured for this type of operation.
