Differences between IPX and SPX protocol

Could you list the differences between IPX and SPX protocol and why do we use IPX protocol in LANs?

IPX works at the network layer and SPX works at the transport layer. IPX/SPX can offer faster performance than TCP/IP networks and are sometimes used to protect internal clients from TCP/IP attacks on the Internet.
