Q

Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) prerequisites and average earnings

Our Cisco certification expert, David Minutella, explains what the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) requires of you and what the average earnings are, in this Ask the Expert response.

What are the requirements to become a CCIE, and what is the going salary of someone who is CCIE certified? Is there any scope in India? Do we need to have an MCA (master of computer application degree) with the CCIE?
There is not a formal degree required to get your Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE). The only prerequisite for attaining your CCIE is your CCNA and the CCIE written qualification exam (and about six months to prepare the lab). I am not aware of the specific market in India, but according to TCPmag's 2006-2007 salary survey, the average salary for a CCIE was $116,000.
